Nightmare City – Incubo sulla città contaminata (1980)
Nightmare City (aka City of the Walking Dead aka Incubo sulla citta contaminata) is at 1980 zombie movie by Italian director Umberto Lenzi.
This movie wasn’t terrible, but it was hard to sit through. Mainly due to the fact that it hasn’t aged well, but there are some other factors in there as well.
It like many other movies, says it has zombies in it, and I guess it all depends on what you consider to be zombies. These “zombies” run around with knives and guns killing everything that gets in the way, my problem is they seem to intelligent. I prefer zombies to be running on their basic instincts, killing to eat not just killing. These zombies do bite people, and it seems that if they are biting a women they like to go for the breasts?
The movie stars Hugo Stiglitz as the reporter Dean Miller, he is sent to the city’s airport to meet a scientist off a plane. Something is terribly wrong and all the passengers on the flight have been posioned by some kind of radiation, as soon as they land these zombie-ish creature start their rampage and kill all the soldiers and guards that were there to meet them.
Dean Miller escapes and sensing things are only going to get worse he heads to the hospital where his wife works. Once he has his wife he tries to warn the world but it’s to late and the carnage gets worse. There are other small sub plots and it’s another one of those films where we wondered why the characters were doing some of the things they were doing. Maybe it was so complex it just went over are heads, but I don’t think so.
This could be the first film to have running zombies, if you know of an earlier one let us know?
The gore level is high, the effects are ok, the acting is very 1980’s.
Would we recommend it, hmm maybe. 2.5/5 which is an OK.
