The Battery has set the bar high for indie Zombie films.

Negatives

May not have enough Zombie kills for some viewers.

I’ve reviewed way more zombie films than I ever thought I would have in my lifetime. It’s becoming more and more rare to find the gems of the bunch. So when you do happen to stumble across something special it makes it that much more exciting. “The Battery” is indeed something special. Something that comes around not nearly often enough. A great zombie film that succeeds as a great film as well.

“The Battery” follows Ben and Mickey. Two baseball players from the same team who happen to get stuck together when the zombie plague hits. While they traverse around the rural areas of New England trying to survive not just from the zombies but themselves as well.

Much like the reason why “The Walking Dead” succeeds “The Battery” relies more on the alive characters and tension between them than having wave after wave of zombies being thrown at you. Long intense dramatic scenes that build up to the climatic ending that will leave you not wanting the film to end. Shot extremely well and complimented by some great music the film makes watching montages of Ben and Mickey travel through scenic woods or cabins a thing of beauty almost to the point I wished I was there. And then they’d remind you about the zombies. Reminiscent of “Easy Rider” or “Into the Wild” making an art out of a perfect blend of cinematography, music and editing. It really was a treat to watch. I highly recommend this film to anyone who loves film. Especially independent film making. The bar has been set indie zombie films, this movie had a budget of only $6000 and was worth every dollar. How will you respond?
