Zombie aka Zombie 2 aka Zombi aka Zombi 2 aka WooJoo
This Zombie movie has two things going for it, it has great effects and more aka’s than any other film. OK so there’s not much I can say about the aka’s, so back to the effects. These Zombies are impressive, they truly look like decaying, rotting corpses that have freshly dragged themselves out of the ground.
The rest of the movie however is slow and to be frank, boring. A lot of this is to do with the age of the film, made in 1979, it has the pace that you would except from a film made in 1979. It is also made by Lucio Fulci, for those of you who know Fulci’s movies you will know what I mean, and for those of you who don’t know Fulci’s movies, well watch Zombie aka Zombi aka Zombie 2 aka Zombi 2 aka Woodoo….
The acting is a little poor but not terrible, the writing/dialogue is awful and the characters continually do stupid things.
I guess I should tell you a little something about the story:
A small abandoned ship drifts into New York harbor, two coast guards investigating the ship are attacked by the most gruesome of gruesome zombies. This zombie eventually falls overboard disappearing into the murky harbor water.
The ships missing owner was a scientist who had been studying on the Caribbean island of Matool. His daughter along with a reporter, hire a sailor and journey to Matool to look for him, only to find the island is quickly becoming overrun by the zombies. They end up trapped in an old hospital fighting off the onslaught of Zombies until the bitter end..
Even though I’ve somewhat painted this movie in a bad light it is still a classic. Why else would Windows 7 chose to feature the shark scene in their 2010 commercial, where the film clip is dubbed over with nature documentary-style narration. If you are a true zombie fan you should watch it and decide if you like it for yourself.
